New Soccer Complex

A rant by: GreatFlatLand

Has anyone heard anything about the new multi-field indoor soccer complex that the city gave an estimated $6 million of community centre funds to build. I've been hearing rumours that this project is not going to get off the ground. I think that $6 million could be better used to revitalize our community centres and provide them with larger facilities to generate revenue and allow them to be more self sufficient then they currently are. A new multiplex is not needed. Several indoor soccer facilities at community centres is a better way to go.

I seem to have heard something about this soccer complex, but now suddenly no one knows anything about it, so I wouldn't be surprised if the whole project's been put on hold. But I tend to agree with the idea of spreading the money around to maintain local facilities around the city. It seems to me that these centralized complexes wind up getting over-reserved for the elite teams, while the grass-roots squads are left to play on fields that no longer have even grass roots. In addition, we don't need another Blumberg simply because it has proved to be a lousy place for the game. It's too far out and even worse it's too windswept to play the game properly. What happened to all the trees that were supposed to have been planted to act as windbreaks? The focus now should be on keeping the community center fields up to snuff, especially since it appears that this country will never be able to do anything in international competition anyway.
