Forks Fireworks ![]() A rant by: FreedomFries If you weren't out of town on the weekend, there is a pretty good chance you were at the Forks for the fireworks this weekend. It's usually the thing to do when you're stuck in the city. That was the case for me and a few friends this year. We figured we would go out for dinner and then enjoy the fireworks. The problem was with the way they did the fireworks this year. Someone in charge must have thought it would be cool to have a rock band playing on stage while the fireworks went off. Fireworks are good enough on their own! You don't need a loud band playing in the background to make them better! If i wanted to listen to music and watch fireworks exploding, i would click on an MP3 right now and wait for my screen saver to come on. It was terrible, you could hardly hear the explosions, and there was no chance that you could hear the amazement from the crowd, which always adds to a good fireworks show. Half the fun of it is hearing the little kids with their 'ooohs' and 'aaahs' as they watch with their parents, and the silence inbetween explosions waiting to see what the next one will do. Not only that, the band that was playing wasn't even a well known band that everyone could enjoy. I'm all for different types of music, but at a mainstream event, you should probably have mainstream music as the main event, since it is the general public that you're playing for. The majority of people are probably not into screaming into a mic as loud as you can without any melody. I feel like i'm turning into an old man writing this rant, but in reality if you were there you would probably say the same thing. Fireworks have been around for a very long time and people will always be amazed by them, you don't need to add anything. In this case the only thing i could see that would have redeemed having a band play is if they would have sang the anthem. After all, it was Canada day! << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) BigB says: 2006-07-06 10:50:57 last time i went to the forks it was so packed you were forced to hold hands in a line as group just so you didnt lose eachother. Good thing it was woman i was with, im too insecure to hold a guys hand. The kids are cute tho. It is funny to hear their ooohs and aahhs, and hear their excitement as they are experiencing the show. stuckhere says: 2007-06-25 03:27:52 i quit going becuase of that 2 hour walk to get 500 feet to leave the park but I pefer the lightning anyway |
