They admit it ![]() A rant by: FreedomFries Some of you may remember way back in the early days of WinnipegRant that there was a post commenting on how the photo radar in our city is nothing but a cash grab. There were a few responses saying that the city is looking out for the saftey of its citizens and it has nothing to do with being a cash grab. Well for those of you who don't read the papers, check out this article in the sun today: http://www.winnipegsun.com/News/Winnipeg/2006/04/26/1550937-sun.html You decide now, do they really care about our safety, or do they want a little extra to fund this years police picnic. << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) BigB says: 2006-04-26 14:41:23 hmm, ramrod i think you have used that comment a 1/2 doz times. let's try to add new content please... The over-abundance of natives in winnipeg, and their poor social skills. BigB says: 2006-04-27 10:07:07 I think Art has been busy cruising around in his camaro grooming his mullet while making dope deals. I ran into him while i was in transcona picking up an 8 ball to celebrate the weekend. TheRealGV says: 2006-09-24 05:01:29 Who cares if it's a cash grab. If you are going to speed or break a traffic law, you deserve to be out a pile of money. So if they want to fund a picnic or some other thing with the money you paid for breaking the law, too bad. Slow down and obey the laws. They're there for a reason. log1c says: 2006-11-25 15:07:34 I agree with RealGV you guys are calling it a cash grab, almost as if they are taking your money for no reason. YOUR BREAKING THE LAW YOU IDIOTS, you don't see people complaining about how parking tickets, or corporate fines are such a "CASH GRAB!?!". Its pretty simple, break the law, pay a fine. GreatFlatLand says: 2006-11-27 11:55:40 I agree with the real GV. The reality of the situation is that laws are meant to be followed. I made the same argument that cameras are just a cash grab as I more often than not do speed. Someone made the point that laws are meant to be adhered to and just because you can safely break a law does not give you the right to. Recent studies (don\'t ask me for them I don\';t have them) have shown that the red light cameras have reduced speeds and not just at intersections where there are cameras. Reducing speeds leads to less serious accidents which leads to our annual rebate cheques from MPI. Who is opposed to that? log1c says: 2006-11-28 02:00:00 amen great flat land maddogjones says: 2006-11-28 20:19:14 SLOW THE f*** DOWN AND QUIT WHININ YA PUSSY ASS NIGGA.. There is one particularly busy intersection there that has a dedicated transit lane. Problem is, it's illegal for passenger vehicles to be in this lane, and it has a traffic camera. It is also not marked. Thousands of people get nailed by this thing, and thousands complain about the lack of proper markings and the impracticality of the intersection. Well, the government refuses to install proper signage, or to remove the camera, reasoning that they need the money generated by that camera to make the infrastructure budget! Apparently, every year that camera generates one and a half million pounds (almost $5 million). SOLMoFo says: 2007-02-09 00:14:44 BTW- Got the traffic camera blues? Do a public service and help your fellow motorists! There are small vent holes near the bottom of the unit that houses the camera. One ladder and one can of expanding foam will ensure nobody gets caught for a while... not that I'm advocating that. Trafficticketguru says: 2008-12-30 11:50:25 To learn the truth about photo enforcement and how it penalizes good drivers and allows bad drivers to remain un-punished, come to my web site www.trafficticketguru.com As a former traffic officer in Winnipeg let me open your eyes to the truth and how you can successfully fight these tickets. |

Red light cameras do nothing but slow people down for that intersection (only people travelling in one direction) and wear out my brake pads.
