Safety First

A rant by: FreedomFries

I'm sick of how the Government is trying to make us believe that red light camera's are for our safety. The truth is that the Government could careless if you were walking down the road and a semi truck ran a red light turning you into a street pancake. All they care about is the $$$.

They keep telling us how safe red light cameras make the streets. When I was younger they taught us to look both ways before crossing a street. Maybe if they kept teaching that, they wouldn't have to set these cameras up. But then they wouldn't be able to charge us over $100 dollars for speeding through a red light camera intersection.

But I thought the Government cared about me! Or was it that they care about me paying taxes?

Whoa now. Have you ever driven in Wpg? The drivers here think yellow means speed up, a turn signal is a sign of weakness! But I must agree with you, the cameras have to go, replace them with a shotgun. An ass full of double odd buck will make em' think twice the next time.

Ur nuts
Anonymous says: 2005-11-10 11:03:34
Just don't speed and you won't be charged $100. It's pretty simple.
Anonymous says: 2005-11-10 16:51:27
^^ It's that simple eh? C'mon, please! Cameras are a cash grab, plain and simple!
Anonymous says: 2005-11-11 18:28:03
Please explain the "cash grab" rationale to me. Please for the love of God, someone explain that to me.
Anonymous says: 2005-11-12 01:52:11
^^ Cash grab means the GOv't finding a new way, besides taxes, to steal money from us.
cantthinkofanickname says: 2005-11-12 08:12:48
But if you don't speed, you don't get your money "stolen." You speed, you get a ticket. No speeding, no ticket. There's no cash grab, you just need something to complain about because you obviously can't see the sign 200m away from the red light camera telling you it's there. Open your eyes, slow down, and your money won't get "stolen."

I know the definition of cash grab. I asked for the rationale behind calling red light cameras a cash grab. Screw it on man.
BigB says: 2005-11-14 06:14:19
You can't get a better description of a cash grab. There hasn't been this much blatent theft from citizens since they introduced casinos. And atleast then u get to enjoy your money going away in small doses.

AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!! You break the law, you get caught, you pay the fine. Red light camera locations are printed in the paper and there's a sign on the road warning you that one is coming up. If people still, after the warnings get caught, then they deserve it. Are cops with radar guns a cash grab too? How about parking in a handicapped stall? Quit whining, stop getting caught speeding, and maybe find an argument that you will win.
jack49 says: 2005-11-15 10:53:36
It is only OK to park in handicapped stalls if you park sideways and take up three stalls while buying beer for under aged kids. (Simpsons fans will know what i'm talking about)
BigB says: 2005-11-16 18:09:08
Have you ever noticed that they only radar for speeders at the end of the month? That's because they are doing it as a quick 'cash grab' to meet quotas dictated to them. Did someone say entrapment (To lure into performing an illegal act)? Same goes for the cops sitting outside a bar waiting... You are write, we are getting caught in those two examples. But the red-light cameras aren't officers of the law. So are we really getting caught? Can't a photo be altered?
Anonymous says: 2005-11-19 10:42:23
Boo who BigB. Bye the weigh, you mean "right", knot "write." Sum won with as much ranting experience as you should no the difference.
Anonymous says: 2005-11-19 10:44:49
If your picture gets taken, yes, you are getting caught. Just like someone shoplifting in a store who gets caught by the security camera. Or is that somehow a cash grab too, when and if they pay a fine?
30something says: 2005-11-21 02:01:37
huh? how about just quick speeding it's as simple as that. don't speed and you won't get a ticket. youre missing the point here. I'm all for the city making money off people breaking the law by speeding.
Anonymous says: 2006-02-18 12:03:04
It is just a cash grab. I love it when the cameras are in before new intersections are even open. The speed of streets are adjusted here on a random basis or complaints from "citizens". They have researched the points of speed changes and scientifically locate the "speed traps" to maxmize revenue. If we could have common speeds on similar streets, well that would just reduce revenues. Remember the city had already budjeted the revenues before the first one went up. It is NOT a question of speeding but an issue of the city playing games with speeds and then going for the BUCKS.
nekochan says: 2006-02-20 01:21:50
I like to speed. I like to race. I like to beat people in my crappy little golden cav. BUT... I'm smart enough to know when where the red light cameras are. Yet, they can cause major stress. Like this one time, this guy was sliding behind me on Jubilee and I actually thought about getting hit instead of going through the intersection cause I didn't want the ticket. Also, if you go into the intersection cause an emergency vehicle is coming up behind you, do you get ticketed? On the flipside, I know a girl who stops suddenly at every yellow light because she's terrified to get a ticket. Now that's just an accident waiting to happen.
paydirtgirl says: 2006-02-20 21:17:41
In any case, whether pulling over for an emergency or avoiding a sliding vehicle, resulting tickets can be negated or negotiated. I agree with everyone who said: don't break the rules, don't get disciplined. (jeesh, it's the first lesson you teach to a three-year-old!)
Anonymous says: 2006-02-21 08:52:56
Cash grab? It definately is. (I agree with-you don\'t want a ticket, don\'t brake the law) It\'s a matter of choice, but having a red light camera and advertise it from all 4 corners and 200 meters away; what do you want the camera for?Even someone with a pea sized brain would not get a ticket there. Cause if you did get a ticket, how fast are you going at other areas without a camera?
jammin says: 2006-02-24 01:22:04
As far as I have heard, tickets are not sent automatically, but are reviewd by an officer to see what the circumstances were. In that case, someone should not get a ticket for entering an intersection to make room for an emergency vehicle, or even if someone is tailing dangerously close or out of control behind them. As for what I think of the cameras; I'd rather see them at crosswalks than at normal intersections. In one year I witnessed two major accidents at crosswalks from drivers ignoring the lights. In the first, I watched a pedistrian get struck by a car, and the way she flew over the car I still think it's a miracle she walked away with only a concussion and bruising. In the second, two elderly ladies rear ended a car stopped for the flashing lights. Had that car not been there, they would have struck the pedistrian. I'm not saying cameras would solve that, but just that if we had to choose where they went, that's where I would put them.

They have to get money from somewhere. Why not sucker us into believing it is for our safety. T

To learn the truth about photo enforcement and how it penalizes good drivers and allows bad drivers to remain un-punished, come to my web site www.trafficticketguru.com As a former traffic officer in Winnipeg let me open your eyes to the truth and how you can successfully fight these tickets.
fedupwinnipeg says: 2009-03-20 14:00:25
Well I hope you can swear on this website cause i am really pissed off. If they are redlight cameras why the f*** deos it always give me a speeding ticket. A f***ing camera gives me a ticket?? What the f*** is that? How about we put a camera in everyones house to make sure they are pissing correctly. The vast majority of these cameras are catching people for harmlessly speeding, while cops are sitting on their asses in the f***ing coffee shops. I can travel perfectly safe at 64km in a 50km zone, much safer than some asshole who doesn't use his turn signal, or some grandpa going 30km Winnipeg is a s***ty city to begin with and then you add these f***ing cameras, so the government can can line their own pockets and the police can f*** the dog just a little bit more. Dont they get enough money already from taxing the f*** out of us. Im not a fast driver, I am not dangerous on the road, very alert and respond quickly in any situation, yey I get a $190 fine for going 64km in a 50km zone. Even though it was a 60km only seconds before. How can one afford this, I need to take a second mortgage out on the house, or start taking the f***ing bus to drive in this city. This is just another reason why I am moving to a new city very soon. Government, is making winnipeg a s***ty place to live, oh "the heart of the continent"...ya right, "the f***in s***hole of the continent" is more like it...I tear all those f***in tickets up anyways, god damn it.
