Honk If You Love Speed Bumps ![]() A rant by: FreedomFries This rant may not have anything to do with Pot Holes(the category it's in), but if you take the exact opposite of a pot hole you get a speed bump which is just as bad if not worse than a pot hole. Now you might be wondering, "where is this guy going with this?" For those that are not familiar with North Kildonan you may not know what I'm talking about. On two streets in North Kildonan (Bonner, and Knowles) they installed speed bumps every 100 feet or so. These aren't your average 6 inch speed bumps either, they're massive "i'm gonna get hung up on" speed bumps. The whole reason for this is to discourage through traffic from using these streets to get from 59hwy to Henderson HWY. They want the streets to be quieter and safer. As far as I know, when the people on those streets bought their houses they were aware of the traffic situation before they moved in. I don't understand why all of North Kildonan(or anyone who uses these streets) has to pay by having to avoid those streets for the safety of their vehicles so that the few people with houses on those streets can have their peace and quiet. Maybe I should tell the city that I'm sick of hoodlums walking down my street and vandalizing. I'll request that a 50 foot high concrete wall be built around my street with armed guards protecting it 24/7. While their at it, maybe I'll have them build a 6 lane overpass from downtown to my house that only I have access to. Of course I don't want to have to pay for it, but I'm sure the people of Winnipeg won't mind paying a little bit more taxes so that I can have things the way I want them. I guess there's not much I can do, I may as well give in and start to love the speed bumps. In fact i think everytime I go over them at 2AM I'll honk my horn to show my appreciation. << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) BigB says: 2005-08-24 21:51:45 I should proof read this stuff. Now you will all know i was in "special needs" classes! Knibb high football rules! lilise says: 2005-08-27 21:58:08 I drove down Knowles tonight and, much to my surprise, the speed bumps were gone. I guess rants work! BigB says: 2005-08-29 13:45:04 Nono lil, I took my Kubota front end loader and dug them all up on the weekend. It's amazing how when you put on your safety vest and flasher no one asks questions and the police drive by and wave. Your welcome. lilise says: 2005-09-26 23:04:09 Time to put that vest back on, BigB... the speedbumps are back. The strange thing is that it appears that a few closest to Hwy 59 haven't been replaced... at least not yet. So, I was driving down Knowles (at a respectful speed... to show my appreciation for the removal of the speedbumps)... and suddenly had to put on the brakes b/c they're back! Very deceptive, though, because the first one or two weren't replaced. BigB says: 2005-09-29 21:15:03 Unfortunetly I only get motivated to remove them when im coming home from Transcona's drunk driving competition. So it looks like 11.5mths of waiting. I recommend u do what i do lisa, go down Ragsdill (a far more residential are) at high rates of speed. My favorite part is the s-curves. You never know what can be around the corner, a mom walking her baby, kids on skateboards, maybe an old man driving his lil rascal, the options are endless. Great job Winnipeg. If i kill anyone its YOUR FAUL!?#@#%! Anonymous says: 2006-01-21 22:31:16 Try riding with your mom (I'm 15, another year to go!), who's showing you something outside the window while going 60 down Bonner and colliding with a speed bump. The shocks weren't too happy with her... Koopinator says: 2006-01-23 17:41:02 You know what street needs speed bumps? RAGSDILL! I used to live there and at around 3:00 in the morning people come ripping down the street at 80 kph and dont care that they wake you up. Maybe BigB should take the front-end loader and move 'em to ragsdill. I'd like to see that car go over that at 80... |

I see we both go to the same coke dealer on boner ave. If you can remember back there was a while when they had shaved those huge curbs in 1/2 that was because i called and complained a bunch of times saying i lived at 686 bonner and i drive a street rod on sunday afternoons that was trapped at my house because of the high speed bumps. Unfortunetly they eventually realized (after taking them out) that i don't live there. Good point freedom, Those people deserve the traffic. Houses on Henderson hwy didnt used to have 6 lanes of traffic back when they were built. Maybe the traffic should all be diverted for their sake. My solution is to do what i did this evening while traveling down Bonner. I turned up both 15" subs and pounded heavy gangster rap (impressive swearing) as i idled over each of the 35 speed bumps following the school bus dropping of innocent children. I would normally drive 55 while listening to Rita McNeil (at a reasonable level) and not be noticed. But there is one thing you failed to mention. A positive side to this madness. Drunken drives home from the bar. Pop Waylen Jennings (just the good ole boys) and bring the dodge charger up to jumping speed for some good old fashion dukes of hazard action (just be careful not to spill your road rockets). Another complaint i have is that they closed of Mcleod. The just blocked it right off. My hyposthesis is that they kept having to resurface these roads due to high traffic and their solution was to put up a bunch of curbs in the middle of the road. I would recommend concrete (but im in the business) rather then the lesser product Asphalt. On a closing note I will mention that about a month ago while going down Bonner (at 3am for a coke fix w/ them system pounding) i ran into 2 deer in the middle of the road. No lie. First house on north side from Lag. Had i not dropped my pipe into my lap from going over the curb i would have probably missed them both. But luckily i got them both, got a new front end on my car and have eaten something other then Mc Dicks for weeks. So i don't know which way to turn anymore. Thanks Esquire. (excuse spelling just came back from transcona's second annual drunk driving competition)
