Spirited Energy???

A rant by: FreedomFries

I thought by now someone would have ranted about the new and "?improved?" Manitoba catch phrase.

What I've found most interesting about all of this has been the feedback that has overtaken the news papers and air waves.

Some of responses have been great, I saw in the paper today someone wrote, "Funny how little $2.1 million buys these days." I thought that was pretty clever.

Personally I don't like Spirited Energy, like most people have said it sounds too much like a hydro commercial.

What i didn't see much of in the papers was alternate suggestions, I've heard a few on the radio and some of them were classic, but I'd like to hear what the WinnipegRant crowd has for alternate ideas:

Let's see what we can come up with.

I still think the funniest one I've seen is when they showed Winnipeg on The Simpsons and had a sign that said:

"Welcome to Winnipeg!....We were born here, what's your excuse".

That'll be my contribution.
Just switch Winnipeg with Manitoba.

i agree with your feeling that "Spirited Energy" sounds like a hydro commercial! i would like to suggest "aSsHoLe oF cAnAdA" as my slogan

I have a feeling no matter what these people came up with, manitobans far and wide would have cried fowl. And i think it is way better than 'friendly manitoba', which, to me, sounds cheesy and outdated. Bring on the ad-campaign, i have the sprit.

I wouldn't have minded so much if: a) It didn't take 2.5 YEARS...... b) It was done by a Manitoba-based group, not one from New York.... and c) It didn't cost a million bucks. Still; I hate it. Ugly logo. Lame tagline. I'd have gone with "Hey, at least we're not Saskatchewan".

Why wasn't the city of Wpg's people asked an opinion on this? It could have made for a good contest.

yes it should have been a contest for the people in the city. give the winner 100 bucks to spent at the bdi and we save like 2 million bucks.

It would have been better if it wasn't an advertising scam by a local cry baby company (Mondetta people). No matter whatever his name is (did you know his name? (Mondetta man)) says, he's doing it for himself. Gotta like how he can't take the truth, and pull the race card. That is SO typical. See the story yourself: http://www.winnipegsun.com/News/Manitoba/2006/06/21/1644668.html

I have to agree with that article. Why didn\'t we have some familiar faces in the ads, instead of... well nobody\'s?

I read the Sun article quoted.. I have been here for 50 years, went to all the schools, seen alot.... I had no idea who Mondetta man is/was... illusions of grandeur??

Wow. I guess we've gotten a bit off topic here, but wow. So this is one of the people we have given the responsibilty (and our money for that matter....) If you haven't read the above article, READ IT. Before I read it, I didn't have a clue who Ash was. Now I do, and I'm glad because I will never buy a product that he has anything to do with.

I generally agree with all of the above. "Spirited Energy" probably isn't what I would hope to have come out of $2.1m, and the dude from Modetta certainly didn't do himself any favours with the way he reacted (any reasonable businessman would have realized that he was open to scrutiny when he was in ads paid for by taxpayer dollars that he was partly in charge of). The other thing I'm seeing is Winnipeg's rather self-depricating attitude. I once heard Winnipeg referred to as "Whiner-peg" and, well...the truth hurts.

Actually it's LOSERPEG!

spirited energy. as far as i know spirits are drinks like beer and rum or ghosts. energy is a given, i guess this means we have a bunch of lively drunks, or lots of ghosts, Ron

Who cares if you don't like it. Who cares if it cost 2 million dollars. Who cares what the Winnipeg Sun says. ------------------------------------- The fact of the matter is that we live here and it will only get better if WE make it better. ------------------------------------- Quit ranting, get off your buts and do something more productive than complaining.

hometown, if you despise complainers go to lovewinnipeg.com. We are here to express our opinions and more importantly mock stupidity.

Yeah whatever. Bring back Bennie the Winnipeg Jets mascot.
JetPilot says: 2006-07-26 10:54:01
We can cut "Bennies" head off and put it on the "Golden Boy". That's spirited energy!

A good slogan for our unpretentious city should be more like "feels like home" ... or "just don't care" "Spirited energy" ridicules us all.
Vostok says: 2007-11-17 22:01:05
For some reason I always thought "Spirited bull****" would be a good one

Spirited Energy? This whole logo bull is nauseating, the first thing that comes to my mind when hearing this logo is,'the land that we occupy has the past spirits of all those massacred',just so we could live in Friendly Manitoba.thx gary doer for your back door dealings, you and sam katz must get along brillantly.
