Election Time

A rant by: jack49

Its election time once again! To keep it on the winnipeg/manitoba topic i wont talk about the federal aspect, such as porky pig martin, or the straw man harper. What i want to talk about is our MPs.
Why do they come to my house trying to say how they are going to save the world and how they will represent me if they get elected? These people dont care at all about me, or you, they care about what they are told to do by their superior. I dont even know why we have MPs.

This is my rant, since they dont care what we have to say, why dont we just vote for the hottest ones? Lets get some hot blondes running for our neighbourhoods. Instead of spending the time to come up with "what they will do for our neighbourhood" hand outs they can just hand out brochures with their pictures in them.
Then when we vote for them, we know it will be their picture in the papers that we get to see.

Really it makes no difference what they know anyways, they just do what their told. So lets get some good looks into politics. From there you just pick the party that you prefer.

Thank goodness, finally a party I can vote for. Where can I get a lawn sign for the "Pole Dance Party" At least if I'm going to be screwed over by my government they had better look good naked.

Hi. My name is Red and I want you to vote for me. I promise to screw the working stiff, give lots more money to the bums who don't want to work, bow to special interest groups. I promise to give billions more to the natives, including huge parcels of private land. I will screw you further by making secret deals with the Americans, that will cost this country billions in lost income and thousands of jobs. Oh yeah, I also have to raise the PST and GST. Welfare doesn't pay out enough so federal taxes must be raised too! (The folks have to look good in designer clothing and lots of bling!) I...AM...CANADIAN!!!

I have always believed strongly in Proportional Representation in this country. 1) You're right your MP doesn't do anything. We have back benchers that are controlled by party whips. 2) Western alienation: Why is the whole damn country controlled by Ontario and Quebec or rather Ontario and Quebec politicians? 3) I want my vote to count again.

re western alienation what a joke try living in northern Ont or the territories then write about alienation

A Joke? Alberta is one of the most powerful provinces in Confederation, yet they only have 2 seats in the senate. PEI has more. If you live in the north, you can expect to get s*** on. 90% of the population live within about 200km of the porder.

Vote Conservative.

^^ `That's a very persuasive argument`(sarcasm). Maybe you should expand on 'why' people should vote conservative.

Well FreedomFries, the obvious answer is so that you're not voting Liberal. I don't know who I'm voting for this election. Haven't decided yet.

Actually I disagree. I think your MP can and will help you in any way they can. A few years ago I had an issue with EI. I called my MP and got an apology from EI within 10 days. I then thought I would try it out with Income Tax. I called my MP again, and while they couldn't help me, I did have an ombudsman call me from the income tax department to explain stuff to me (in a nice way) and tell me how the income tax act works etc. I also was told that at least in Winnipeg, the incoem tax department has a special area that specifically deals with requests that comes from MP's. they deal with these requests faster than any other requests. However, MP's ARE only human, they can't change the whole government, but at least their voice is heard more than the average joe on the street.

I also think the MP positions are useless. I always vote conservative and in my area the MP writes a report on what they have been doing in their last term. The report involved “I have been really busy…grand openings…schools…. meeting in Ottawa once... All very impressive to a 9 year old you baby-sit or you 76 year old mommy. I am glad to hear you are keeping your MP busy with ridiculous predicaments. I suppose if I was a complete moron and hadn’t taken grade 8 math I could get an MP to help explain to me how to fill in the boxes for doing my taxes. But the truth is that millions of people are doing these tax-returns on their own, so admitting that you are incapable of writing within the lines is devastating. Why should an MP’s voice be heard over a ‘average joe’ anyways? Are they a better person? I question how much pull they actually have (keep in mind most of them are woman).

I was happy to see the Conservatives take power, even though it is a minority government. My highlight of the election was when Alcock the arrogant dink got out voted by a greenhorn. Goes to show Liberals don't belong in this town. Their biggest mistake was keeping Martin around. With leaders like Martin and Layton its no wonder Harper is our new PM.
BalthazaarRamrod says: 2006-01-24 10:47:33
Martin will be stepping down. That will give the Conservatives some time.
THETRUTH says: 2006-01-29 08:53:22
Yes i was happy to see Alcock lose and yes he was an arrogant prick as well
