What's wrong with Transcona? ![]() A rant by: hairpin I've been browsing this site for a fair bit now. Sometimes I come across comments concerning Transcona that are just a huge slap in the face. I've overheard the occasional slanderous comment about how seedy it is when I'm out and about. I live here, and I really like it here. As far as I'm concerned it's just as average as any other residential area in Winnipeg. Completely average! Anyone who has spent at least 20 minutes driving around the area could plainly see that. What's up with the Transcona jokes? << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) BlackThorne says: 2007-01-15 18:27:33 Most girls in Transcona are known to "sleep around". And since there are many bars located there, it has more than its fair share of drunks. hairpin says: 2007-01-16 12:57:01 Most Transcona girls? By 'most' do you mean a majoritive percentage? We don't sleep around any more than anyone else in any other part of the city do, thank you very much. As for our bars, well, personally I don't know any drunks that are over 21. You know kids these days. They're pathetic. But I'll definitely agree with the easy-to-make-fun-of-the-name component. Trampcona is another good one. IJustWannaSayThis says: 2007-01-16 14:39:18 I guess I must miss the more "exciting" parts of Transcona, but I haven't heard of Transcona girls being any easier than any other part of the city. Hairpin - I hadn't heard of "Trampcona". Maybe we're neighbours?? Anonymous says: 2007-01-18 17:43:26 Let's not forget my personal favourite...Land of the living room freezer! Doubles as a dining table during the holiday season! Or, Transcona living room furniture. Doubles as your lawn furniture during the summer! I've lived in the area for almost 20 years and NO I do not work for CN. So stop asking me! If the girls here sleep around, they haven't made it to my house ...YET! I've got an 18 year old daughter and I have been poked fun of at work relentlessly since her birth about when she turns 10 it's law she has to date, no females from Transcona are virgins when they hit double digits, etc., etc. I know it's all in fun (I think) and it's what makes Transcona unique. You ever hear about St. Vital or Charleswood? No, because no one ever made up stories about them. If they did, who cares, we're from Transcona. We're all illiterate! And being from Transcona, news takes longer to get to us because we're so far from the city! My coworkers tell me thay have to pack luggage to come for a visit! So, don't worry about what they say. People are just jealous, because we have folklore and they're, well boring and uninteresting! And yes, it is a really nice community. Now, for all you easy chicks who live here, my address is...:) BigRedS024 says: 2007-01-18 17:46:46 Sorry post above about freezers should have been posted by me BigRedS024. Damn computers in Transcona, they don't work either. (Oops, another slam!) TCkid says: 2007-05-03 22:40:30 Hey guys! This seems as good a thread as any to post in. I'd really like to make some pro-transcona jokes in an upcoming thing for school, and I could really use help looking for nice things I could use. (I can't think of any the moment I start looking, you know?) So, lets make a list of nice things about transcona. hairpin says: 2007-05-06 18:28:48 Well, for starters... we're "Winnipeg's Park City"... which may have something to do with the fact that there are a crap load of freakin' parks all over the place. Which is nice, I would say. BigB says: 2007-06-13 03:22:29 It's like you were looking to see if I was still around. Let's get this all straightened out. Transcona is the butt of a lot of jokes on this site because there is a large quantity of us that are from North Kildonan. We realize the difference in quality of life from NK to Elmwood and from Elmwood to Tcona. Here are some reasons why: mullets, rusted out camaros, skid bars, garage sale signs that are up for a year, main street in tcona consists of decrepit buildings and drunks, blue collar community, crime rate is infact higher here (if you think its lower you are not looking at statistics also you do not realize that some of them dont drive 10speed bikes and can take their stolen car to NK to steal another one), Flags & bedsheets commonly used for window coverings, car parked on yard, 40 yr old RV's with flat tires and boarded up windows are used as guest houses for when your buddies get to loaded to remember where their car is, lower property tax bcs no one wants to live there, teenage pregnancy, TCona schools have highest dropout rate in division, approx 50 scrap yards in walking distance, the list goes on... stuckhere says: 2007-07-13 05:51:13 Envy I don't live there and I don't want to live there but hey you have everything shops jobs money everything that you could possibly get In winnipeg Has to be available in Trancona You Don't hear to many Transcona jokes coming from Tuxedo Were the streets are paved and it looks like all of them to good for Potholes are they. Probly to good for slurpies stuckhere says: 2007-07-13 05:55:08 EH Downtown Girls are just as easy as Trancona Girls.. Not like them hard to get got to have some money maples girls A least the boys stay downtown stuckhere says: 2007-07-13 05:59:13 hey have you ever looked at transcona from a satalite map. Sort of looks like a penis That or a chipmonk wagging its tail twistedmanitoba says: 2007-07-27 11:46:40 omg stuck here you are Effen hilarious .. elfwitch says: 2007-10-09 03:19:17 tonight I was able to give Transcona a boost by hypothesizing that the dung from all the pink flamingos is great fertilizer and therefore that area produces the best home grown veggies, which I partook of this evening with gusto. So, fear not, we don't all hate you, just the ignorant ones... |

It's a name that's easily made fun of (Trashcona) but other than that, not a thing wrong with it. Crime is low compared to most other parts of the city. It's an older area, not new like St. V or Charleswood, etc., but I think it's great. I've been here since moving to Winnipeg and have no reason to move.
