Poor & Taxis

A rant by: Anonymous

A short little rant, 'cause I've worked all day.

Why are there more poor people in taxis than there are on buses? Don't get me wrong, the buses have quite a few poor people in them, but 9 out of 10 taxis I see, especially downtown, have people that look like they can't afford a hair brush (or wouldn't know what to do with it if they could afford one!) How can they afford taxis???

I woulda said that they are only taking the taxi to rob the cabby, but now with the unpenetrable shields they all have, everyone knows it's impossible to rob a cab.

impossible? How are we determining that ppl are poor? By the way they dress? Some of the richest ppl in the world look and dress like bums. And have you ever known a 'baller' who tries to act like a high roller every payday and then stays home when not working at BK the rest of the week? People get the same amount of welfare regardless of what transportation they take. Atleast its not being spent on drugs and booze and rather being given to immegrants that are trying to better their personal situations.

Even in this oh so enlightened world of political correctness I can still tell 9 times out of 10 what a poor person looks like. I'm talking about people who look like they just picked up their welfare cheque and are now on their way to the LC. You really don't see them???

Good one! Haven't you ever heard the stereotype that taxis are the busiest on welfare day...driving people to the vendor? I thought it was just a stereotype but now I wonder...I think it's because NOT ALL but SOME people are poor because they are just not good with monetary budgeting.

my question is why it bothers you so much as to how people spend their money.

If it's poor people taking taxis - i.e. people on welfare - then it's a waste of my taxes to have their butts in taxis rather than on buses. In short if they can afford to take a taxi, they're getting at least $20 a month too much!

It's called welfare. You know it's welfare day when the less fortunate come through the drive thru by cabs ordering $60 worth of food. They then complain when they have a bit of a wait and how they're cab fare is increasing to the wait. Like they pay for it!

All a person really has to do is call their Welfare worker, say they need a ride from here to there and poof...instant taxi service. I see it daily where I work and it makes me want to puke. And what's with these "poor" people wearing brand name clothing? I wear runners from Walmart and Joe Dirtbag hops into a cab wearing $150.00 Nike runners with an Umbro downfilled jacket and Footlocker designer sweats? As for the goof who comments why we are upset how they spend "their" money...Hey bozo, who do you think pays for welfare?

this one guy mentions'people in cabs'and then claims they're poor. From what vantage point was he;the cab driver,a guy at the bus stop or some guy driving who hates his job and then proceeds to vent about'poor people. This attitude is no surprise and neither are most of the comments that followed because Winnipeg has mostly rude people and if your not when you arrive here, you sure will be soon enough.good luck.
