Cheers mate!

A rant by: BigB

I hate when people say "cheers". Has anyone else noticed this growing trend w/ the waiting staff in restaurants through Winnipeg? I travel with my job across primarily western canada, but also throughout the states and only Winnipeggers are idiotic enough to make this comment. I am ok with it when you drop off a round of fresh drinks. But when you bring a forgotten steak knife or stop by to check on the meal then "enjoy" is much preferred.

Now I am starting to get emails w/ the signoff "Cheers". WTF are they "cheers"ing? It's not like we are having a drink or anything. I think its a good indication on how mental some people are. So stop the stupidity and get something original that makes sense.

You have WAY too much time on your hands... get a life!

On the other hand, if that's the biggest source of irritation in your life, consider yourself blessed! Cheers, IJWST.

I think that "Cheers" just reinforces that Winnipeggers are drunk more often than not. At least you get a cheers, some servers are down right nasty.

Actually, seriously, "cheers" is used and has been used by people for years as a greeting/farewell. It's used a lot by the British, for example.

Cheers is used lots in the UK and Australia and Zew Zealand. I think people use the word Cheers to sound like they are well travelled. I hate it more when people say mate. ok ok I get it you spent some time in England, you're home now, snap out of it.

Yeah i have to agree, Cheers is really stupid.Unless an english man or Austrailian say it then it seems ok.

That's kind of elitist, isn't it? Saying that you can only use a word or expression if you're from a particular country?

Whats so bad about that? Black ppl can say the 'N' word and society deems it acceptable. I have decided that if dogs can urinate in public w/o legal action taken then so can I. If someone came to Canada for 2 weeks would they start saying "eh" and "aboot" (ive never heard anyone use that word w/o trying to make fun of Canadians though...)? And if so, wouldn't the locals of their country that they returned to not only mock them, but also hopefully kick the living sh*t out of them. The law has spoken.
