A rant by: Anonymous

I cannot fathom what has happened in this city re: patrons of fast food restaurants and the garbage they leave behind on their tables. Is it such a burden to take a few steps and put this crap in the garbage can? Has this generation decided to intentionally (or is it just subconsciously?) make the employees clean up their mess? This attitude and subsequent (in)action is disgusting. Get in the game, Winnipeg!

People do not clean up thier messes as this is what people that work at fast food restaurants or restaurants in general are paid to do. They are not being ignorant or intentionally rude. I personally clean up after myself, but that is my choice. The people we should be after are those who throw thier fast food bags out on the ground or the millions of Tims cups that litter our city come spring. That is the one of the most inconsiderate and disrespectful actions, dirtying our city because you are too lazy to drop it in a garbage can.

OK, if we don't clean our mess in the fast food establishment, we are creating employment. Someone is hired to clean up. Same as litter on the street, gotta' hire peeps to clean the mess up. Also, as a male, I've come to believe that not only is the whole world a toilet for me, but it is also a garbage can. Come to think of it, the more garbage on Winnipeg streets the better, maybe we can bury this burg, and hide it from the world. Also I'm sure some loser Canadian out there will find a way to blame your pig sty of a city on Americans, that seems to be the way out for people of your ilk.

I have to agree with the first bit of roscoe's comment. People are paid to clean at fast food, and even sit down restaurants. If everyone was to pitch in and clean up, some poor minimum wage minion would be jobless (ie: Clone High, the death of Ponce de Leon episode) and then our unemployement numbers would rise, and then hippies would complain that Canada sucks and that we don't do enough to help our poor. And no one wants that.

^^People are paid to clean yes, but your not making the job for them, if your crap wasnt lying around, they could probably be doing more productive stuff like cleaning the discusting bathrooms.
roscoe says: 2006-01-13 20:18:25
The guy serving you your food has probably just come back from cleaning the toilets.

yeah well i do agree with all of you in a diffrent ways... like yeah ppl are paid to clean up... but i also agree with jack49 about the fact they could be doing sumthing more productive... because they could acctualy be smart and making them clean up would just be a waste of a good mind! for all we know they would invent a world changing things.. doubtful... but possible

I always clean up after myself. But i draw the line with Quiznos. They have a cafeteria style (subway knock off) but the prices are comparable to a perkins/smittys sit down style. Why should i have to clean up my garbage when it costs me 15$ for a min wage punk to spend 1 min throwing a sandwhich together. Subway there is one person working at a time. Quiznos they have 2 ppl so they can yell back and forth to eachother like your in walmart or a public restroom. Up yours quiznos!

If I leave my garbage there then when the worker clears the table he'll wipe the table, too. If I clear my table myself, the table is less likely to get wiped or washed for the next person. Personally, I clear my own garbage away because it looks better to other people who are not thinking about what I just said, and really, it doesn't affect me at all if that table isn't wiped - I've left. So why should I really care about the next person?
nekochan says: 2006-02-06 17:13:54
Big0Joe, how much stuff could a person possibly have to think about while working at a fast food restaurant? Okay, now I realize that this is a intense job, lots to do, and such, but if you don't have anything to do, or if your job is to clean up the restaurant, then standing around and just thinking is not part of the job. If you wanna go stretch those grey muscles, then go look for a job where that's part of the job description.
big0joe says: 2006-02-13 13:29:59
im not saying when your on the job im saying when the dude is at home or somehing like that. but the again most of the people that are cleaning tabels havent taken many classes. but also they could just be trying to make money so that they can pay for collage.
nekochan says: 2006-02-14 17:01:08
Exactly. So, cleaning a table is not a waste of a good mind. If anything, it teaches the mind the many skills it will need in order to survive in the business world. I know it sucks, but all those crappy jobs you take as a kid do help develop your skills for the future careers.
big0joe says: 2006-02-15 17:18:06
yes that is so true! and obvioulsy the people not still in school choose to do that job. either because they like doing it or becuase they screwed up somewhere along the line.

I am on both sides here. I do work in a fast food restaurant. We actually don't get paid to clean up after people. We do get paid to serve people. The way I look at it next time don't complain your waiting on your "fast food" because one of our employees is out in the dining area cleaning up after one of the diners. And can anyone answer why we should have to clean up ketchup that may be on the walls due to your children or how about your kid puking all over our bathrooms? They don't even have the decency to let someone know. I deal with this stuff all the time. And I do like doing what I'm doing. Just don't bitch next time your order took longer than it should have.

To not clean up after yourself is just plain lazy. Obviously your mother didn't do a very good job teaching you how to behave.
Anonymous says: 2006-03-26 09:52:38
That is the way I look at it. When my kids make a mess in a restaurant I clean it up. I feel that it is my job and not someone who may only be being paid minimum wage.
BigB says: 2006-04-26 15:28:12
isnt cleaning up after a person a form of serving them? You are right tho, do it yourself is what keeps fast food cheap for the young welfare families.
Anonymous says: 2006-06-15 02:29:10
By not cleaning up you are NOT creating extra jobs for people to clean up. Fast food restaurants do NOT hire extra people just to clean up after people who decide to leave their garbage all over the place, labour targets have to be met as it is, after all, a business. I often wonder if people who leave crap all over the tables at fast food restaurants would do the same at their own house.

A pig is a pig whether out or at home. The way I see some tables after a cutomer leaves is pretty gross. Makes me wonder about the filthyness of what they live in.

What about the idiot's [you know who you are]that park near these fast food places and instead of walking to the Garbage or keeping it til they get nearer to one, they decide that the trash would look better on the ground just outside there car door. These PEOPLE are part of the same group that throw their trash out of car windows and their wrappers on the ground where they walk. IGNORANCE IS BLISS.I HOPE YOUR KIDS LIKE THE TRASH YOU LEAVE BEHING.PIGS
