it finally happenned, it didn't take long ![]() A rant by: 30something I'v only been working downtown for 2 weeks and I finally got asked for spare change today. Not only that, but I saw (but managed to avoid) 2 other guys asking for change as well. One of them was in front of Portage Place near Vaughn holding out a hat and waving it around violently as if he was MAD that he had to stoop to such a level (NOT). I wonder if they all come out in droves due to the fact that the weather is bad so they think it willmake them look more pathetic. Actually the guy that asked me for change, I felt very sorry for him, he was native, and had a very poor complexion and looked really lost. He looked like he was an alcoholic (very large red nose and puffy features) and it was hard walking by him. It's hard to treat other human beings like that, but it also makes me so angry (hence this rant) that I work hard all day and I don't want to give my money to people on the street. I DO give to charities, (mostly involving animals) but I like to choose what to give the small amount of extra money that I have. << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) Anonymous says: 2005-12-12 00:25:53 so the sheletered suburbanite finally got asked for change downtown and is now pouting about it. my heart really cries for you.... especially when you affirmed that you do in fact give to charities... It was especially sweet of you to point out the fact that the human being asking you for money was native... just to make sure we knew. Yes, i feel sorry for you, but it has nothing to do with the fact that someone asked you for spare change. Red024S says: 2005-12-12 23:43:24 Believe it or not, some of these "panhandlers", make it to the burbs. Nothing like walking around a mall and being confronted outside by some piece of crap asking for change. Threatening to snap their spines seem to work well! My favorite though is the guy who says he has kids in his car and ran out of gas! These jerk offs are actually dressed decent. Don't be fooled. They're just better dressed pieces of crap!!! JT says: 2005-12-13 01:32:43 I'll give everyone a win/win scenario to try out next time they're asked for change: Offer to give the dude $5 if you can punch him in the stomach or $20 to beat the s*** out of him. This way you get to release any tension you have, he doesn't have to lie to get money, he actually earns some money, and it won't hurt him long cause he'll be drunk as hell in an hour. Do your part Winnipeg. BigB says: 2005-12-20 23:57:17 It's a great point. The only issue is that we will have animal rights, or human rights trying to protect them. Then you will be getting arrested for assaulting the person you are offering money to. I bet the panhandlers at christmas time make more money then the average person that gives them handouts. |

Too bad they don't give out receipts like charities do...
