Father and Son Panhandlers

A rant by: JetPilot

I am getting sick and tired of these two panhandlers, which are a father and son combo. One stands at the traffic light at St.James and Ness, the other will be at the lights at St.James and Silver.
They will switch sometimes back and forth. They have signs Saying "I would rather beg than go hungry" or something like that. Its unbelievable how they scam "suckers" everyday. I work and drive in this area everyday and it makes me mad how these scammers can make more money in half a day than some of us in one week. They both seem to have "knee problems" Yeah Right!!! One will wear a knee brace one day and then pass it on a later during the day. To try to make us feel sorry for them, they sure walk alright when they cross through Polo Park Mall.
I see them all the time, as I drive around this area at least a dozen times a day. The traffic lights switch every two minutes. They don't seem to beg too much but two out of approximately ten cars will give change. I have seen loonies and toonies given. So think of this two dollars for two minutes. That makes about $60.00 an hour Approximately??? Clear No Tax??? They are really smart scammers we are just the dummies that work. Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!

Someone once said on here, they should make giving money to pan handlers illegal. I agree, that would make people refrain from funding these losers.

yeah i agree... there is no real reason to gve someone money. yeah to be nice. but THEY could have do something difrent in their life so that they dont need to beg. some of them dont have home's. sometimes its not their fault but there is nothin you can do to help.

There are so lots of places that can take care of homeless people. But there are panhandlers who are doing it for the drug money or who are just lazy and figure it's an easy way to make their rent and at $60 an hour, they don't have to do much - maybe 20 hours in a month to make a decent living. And here I am, working 60+ hours a week like a sucker.

yeah that is good pay. but you gotta sit outside all day. and then there are those mean ppl that diss the panhandlers and what not... i say leave em be if there not doing anything to you. but its ok to get mad if they ask you for money and what not.

Well it looks like you scared them off because for the last while they have not been seen there. Maybe somewhere in Jamaica on a cruise ???

This may amaze you but one of those idiots now hang around Lagimodiere Blvd and Reenders at the stop lights. This one is wearing a so called knee brace.

I understand that sometimes people have no other choice. I am a manager at a fast food restaurant who deals daily with a young panhandler. This individual has on numerous occasions threatened other managers as well as staff. We keep asking him to leave and the police do nothing when he utters threats. There are numerous other business in the area who have filed complaints about him with the same issues. I don't think it is appropriate for someone to go up to people going into a place of business for spare change. I know for a fact he does nothing with it. He does not have a job because he is around all day long. He is scary and I have had customers tell me that he scares them. When is enough going to be enough? Panhandling is not a JOB!

Yeah I agree, I hate pan handlers, you know there's a couple that stands outside of the Shoppers Drugmart in Osbourne, watchout for them, they will be there everyday telling people they need money for the bus. Which is not true since they're there everyday. Be careful everyone, even if you offer them food, the won't take it, so don't bother giving them money, we all work hard for ours, so let them work hard for theirs.
