Mosquitos

A rant by: ArtVandalez

I live near a swamp and normally i get really bad mosquitos in my yard come summer. This spring has been a pretty dry one. Doesn't that mean the mosquitos dont nest as much? Does anyone know if that has truth to it?

As well, Has the city increased/decreased the budget from last year? I remember there was alot about it in the news last year but i didn't really pay attention to it and now i am curious.

The city council are a bunch of nobs when it comes to this sort of thing. They set up a strategy last year that was designed to bolster dragon fly populations last year and should reach it's maximum effect in the coming years. Personally, I didn't find the bugs all that bad and while I'm not necessarily against using pesticides, I liked the idea of finding a greener solution. So much for that. The city has said that they will start to spray again. That will pretty much undo any of the progress that we have made in the last year. Way to waste my money assholes.

Hi everyone, I'm new here! I'm a British ex pat (Islington, east London) and I have been living in Winnipeg for the past 2 years teaching Oboe at the U of M. I have never been to a dirtier more rotten city than Winnipeg. The insects here are annoying pests. We would never stand for this in Monther England. The colonies are full of barbarians.
BigB says: 2006-04-27 11:13:03
Go back to England you f*cking pig! You have the audacity to call Winnipeg the most filthy disgusting place you have ever been? We don't need faggots like you around here. Bitchy woman play oboe. If you can't get work anywhere but Winnipeg perhaps its time to get a real job and grow up. Get the hell outta our city if you decide to mature and start squeegying windows!
Phillip says: 2006-04-27 11:29:37
I rest my case. A barbarian like you wouldn't be allowed to walk the streets in Mother England. The bobbies would haul you off to the tower straight away!
BalthazaarRamrod says: 2006-04-27 11:30:52
The Oboe eh? Mother England? Who is this joker?!? It's my observation that English people are the only people in the world who have the ability to be skinny and flabby at the same time....

WHOA! Spiffy come back lurch. Isn't it time for Tea and Crumpets?

I hate getting caught into stupid debates like this one, but our new British friend here has really pissed me off. He takes a fairly intelligent question about mosquitoes and turns it into a way to bash the city where he is living off the tuition payed by local students. Hmmm.. kind of explains U of M's ranking in terms of quality of education if these are the people who work there. Anyway... if "Mother England" had the same kind of climate and natural surroundings as the Manitoba prairies, they would have just as many mosquitoes as we do and "Mother England" would not be able to do a thing about it. For the record, as much as I don't like the idea of spraying chemicals in our air, it seems right now that the risks of West Nile far outweigh the risks of a low measured amount of pesticides. I would hope that the city would continue to work on it's "green" approach in the future though, and to continue to explore every option available. In answer to the original question, I believe that the city did increase its budget this year. Due to the spring flooding and all the standing water, they are expecting a heavier than usual mosquito count this year. However, the official plan is to spray the entire city without any buffer zones as soon as the count reaches a specific number, as opposed to last year where that policy was not followed.

There is no oboe teacher at U of M with the name Phillip
Phillip says: 2006-04-27 13:11:54
Do you honestly think that I would want to use my real name on this website? You Roughians would probably come to my home and threaten me. I would be forced to deliver a thrashing. I'll be done in this god forsaken place next year when my last pupil graduates. Then I can get back to civilization and away from you dirty savages and your insect infested Village.
BalthazaarRamrod says: 2006-04-27 13:13:28
West Nile only kills Old people and small children. I say let it go. I'll be able to getw here I'm going faster.
FreedomFries says: 2006-04-27 14:23:17
I say send in the B52 bombers with a shipment of DDT. If there are any deformed babies we can always make Winnipeg famous for being a circus town.
lilise says: 2006-04-27 14:24:40
Perhaps I should supply the real name of the oboe instructor at the U of M...

Are you an Internet Sleuth? Do you take this seriously?
Phillip says: 2006-04-27 14:38:03
Go ahead.... You'll recieve nothing but a tharshing and a verbal admonishing if you were to attempt to try anything. Are you really that sensitive about your litle village? Did I hit a nerve? I didn't know people in the colonies could take things so seriously.
jammin says: 2006-04-27 15:00:22
hehe. Now this is getting fun. Seems that we've scared our little British friend a bit. But, honestly back to the issue of mosquitos... let's just fog the crap out of Wosley. If they can't breathe, they won't be able to whine as much and we can all be happy.... (gah.. I didn't used to be this mean.... I think this site is doing something to me.....)
BalthazaarRamrod says: 2006-04-27 15:50:22
Phillip is a B****. I'd kick him in the heart.
lilise says: 2006-04-27 15:51:29
yessir Anonymous (if that is your real name...) I am an 'Iternet Sleuth'. The mosquitoes have been a perpetual problem and no solution has been found that satisfies everyone. I'm not sure that one will ever be found. However, it's a shame if we can't enjoy the few warm months of the year without being attacked by mosquitoes. If I recall correctly, the beginning of last summer was particularly problematic and it wasn't until the fogging began that Winnipeg experienced some relief from the mosquitoes and the threat of West Nile Virus.
Phillip says: 2006-04-27 15:53:12
HA! Typical! Savages. You should be locked up for even suggesting such a thing. Ramrod, what kind of camp name is that? As for you Lilise - Bluffing is a dangerous game.

I understand the post seems to be old but I just want to say this. I am writing from Manchester UK and that so-called guy from Islington seems to me to be a fraud. His language is too obvious and not credible. I reckon he is a fake.
