I dont want to talk about Gas Prices anymore ![]() A rant by: BigB I'm sick of always listening to people complain about gas prices. yes its a shame (**yawns**) that we pay so much. Yes the government is stealing from us, and sure i agree it doesn't go back into our roadways. Its horribe (**tear**). That being said, Do we really have to talk about it? Do we bitch about osmosis or the greenhouse effect? How about the ozone layer? Why complain about something that you have no control over. It's almost as stupid as starting the cliche conversations "hows about that weather". Whether the gas is selling for $0.70/litre or $1.25/litre your going to complain about it. Shut ur pie-holes. If you have such a big problem with it buy one of those fruity 90miles to the gal. Castrating type hybrid's or better yet that new not so 'smart' Mercedes. the law has spoken. << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) Anonymous says: 2005-09-17 19:17:29 Better yet get the idiots who drive around for cruise night to stop doing that and they would save a s*** load - also have stupid winnipeg drivers stop driving like they do. Accelerating to a red light is about as smart as pouring gas on the ground but so many idiots in this city do it THETRUTH says: 2005-10-12 04:48:11 hey there got a bus pass don't yeah? like to run the projector in health class? Yeah i thought so! nice digs slim Anonymous says: 2005-11-10 11:07:50 People complain about $1.00 a litre gas, yet they pay double that for bottled water. WTF? Anonymous says: 2005-11-10 16:50:22 Where are you buying $2 bottled water? Aspen??? Anonymous says: 2005-11-11 18:25:55 Go to any 7-11 and it's $0.99 for a bottle of water (500mL). Use your grade-school math and that adds up to $2/litre. Maybe now that you know, you may start complaining like everyone else. Anonymous says: 2005-11-12 01:50:50 Your comparing apples to oranges idiot! cantthinkofanickname says: 2005-11-12 08:13:51 Nice comeback. BigB says: 2005-11-13 01:44:46 anon, I think it's sick that people even pay for water. OUr city tap is delicious. Maybe you should write a rant on this topic. SingleMalt says: 2005-11-15 08:37:20 It's got nothing to do with apples and oranges. It's about the fact that people have no clue why they are complaining anymore. They jump on some bandwagon (red light cameras, gas prices, pan handlers, mosquitos, etc.) and all common sense flies out the window. Don't get me wrong, I love reading people's rants, but when we get too serious about all of this it really detracts from what life is really about...getting toasted.....nicely toasted. Anonymous says: 2005-11-15 17:00:42 ^^That's the right kinda attitude, if only more people were like that! |-) LIlChooChoo says: 2006-01-03 16:53:34 BigB is obviously and city worker,or a government employee.Everyone has the right to express an opinion ..... that is why this site is here.Opinions are opinions ..... and not the law.No one is the law ..... "no one!" BigB says: 2006-01-03 17:32:42 Administrator; i would like to request a block on lilchocho. Not everyone should have a right to an opinion. Did you read this dribble? A brutal waste of host space on our precious page. I don't work for the govt or the city. If i did I would probably be to lazy to have an opinion. Now brush your teeth and go to bed little girl. BalthazaarRamrod says: 2006-01-04 11:23:42 I laugh at people wehn they complain about gas prices. Cheap gasoline is not a right, it's a privlege that our government secures by sucking the dicks of some serious assholes in the middle east. Take the damn bus if it's so bad, just don't whine to me about it. I don't care. tmbrwlf says: 2006-01-10 22:30:59 I regards to cheap gas prices we have enough oil being pumped out of the ground to supply our contry no problem. Where the problem lies is the fact that most of our oil(and natural gas) is shipped to the U.S.A and we can't cut back on what we give them unless we first cut our own demand for oil first thanks to NAFTA. As for what the high cost of fuel does think of this the higher the cost the more truckers pay for fuel the higher the cost of everything in the store. Before anyone says what about trains consider this a trailer loaded in Toronto and placed on the train takes 3 days to get to Winnipeg, by road 27 hrs Anonymous says: 2006-06-04 22:09:54 Well the truth is, it's fine to complain, and the way out is to be spiritual. Obviously buying and selling is not the answer. And obviously in the end of the day, the countries with more resources will be more well off, or will they?? Or will it be that everyone ELSe will cut down on oil consumption, even those who produce it, while they guzzle it all up? aNd while we're at it, since we've reached peak oil already in most places, we can't expect that that industry will survive. Basically everything you create for computers, and for electrical power as well as all those other industries who use machinery will not be able to function at all. This means that the econmy, which depends on industry will collapse. Don't worry though, those who have an interest to keep things as they are (the wealthy people) will try to put their money away as a reserve (gold). But that won't end up being worth anything! What will be worth something, is S-H-A-R-I-N-G. Because that's relaly a learning curve that we'll be driven right into. So, don't worry at all about gas prices, no need to complain that we PaY more money, to the Americans (according to their dollar value) that which WE produce in our own land, and end up having to pinch the consumer at the end of that totem pole, in the end, no one escapes, and the reality is, those at the bottom, are more secure because they will know more about survival and teaming together, than people who don't know anything expect how to rip everyone off. They are completely insecure. Anonymous says: 2006-06-04 22:23:39 Actually what I meant about the presidents and heads of corporations, as well as the Americans who have gained a lot of world power because of money, being weak, is that, they will see that countries and peoples aren't here just to support them or the Americans, and give them what they have which is high standards of living, so that they can be poor and have nothing, and so, when you have the Americans sending armies into Iran to guard their oil post (it's not about religion, religion is just a smoke screen to gain national support, it's really about gurading their last bit of oil) will find that it's relaly too expensive for them to send armies all over the place. they can't afford to war against the whole world! and they ge caught up in all these countries, it's not just, fight a war, win and go, they get all caught up in different ways, sticking their noses in trying to be world police, that finally they will be forced to cooperate. they have a really high antioanl debt, and can't afford to make war with all the countries. So therefore, since they've wrecked all their own resources, they'll be dependant on the other countries and have to brown nose. That's the only way! and therefore, they are losing power and collapsing, just as most kingdoms have when they ran out of resources. It's not so good however, when the whole WORLD loses resources, but that is where we are headed. After all resources ARE LIMITED, and we can't just keep going as we are. So the powerful people will, hang on to their last drop, and people will gang up on them, because they HAVe something. People won't put up anymore with this "control" business because tyhey can see that people in power are just selfish anyway. So you are going to have a lot of violence for a while, and then, when it gets worse, then people will start to cooperate. But the money system doesn't condone cooperation, so, it's s system that will not be there anymore. Hard to see right now, but it's all coming. Some people thin Armageddon is all about physical wars. But it's supposed to be a spiritual war. And what WAR is ahrder than, fighting against human nature? Obvuosly the fight will be within people, because they will have to learn about SELF SACRIFICE for the sake of others. That's a much harder and severe war than just, kill someone. It's killing off your own human spirit, for the sake of the overall good, that is only something people will do if driven into it by situational force. And for all we know, humankind will get wiped out be a small virus, not a bomb. Nature takes revenge! SOLMoFo says: 2007-02-08 22:49:42 Sad but true... our gas prices suck compared to what? In Europe and Asia, gas has gone for more than $4 a litre for years. Man, do we have it good. That's why here we're rich enough to drive 4x4 Ford Excursions, alone, four blocks to the grocery store for a loaf of bread. sucraman says: 2008-04-23 01:08:52 GET THEM WHERE IT HURTS.BOYCOTT ESSO,SHELL AND PETRO-CAN.WHEN LESS PEOPLE ARE BUYING THEIR GAS THEY MAY BE FORCED TO LOWER THE PRICES AND OTHER COMPANY'S WILL FOLLOW SUIT.UNLESS OF COURSE PAYING THESE PRICES IS OK WITH YOU.HAVE A NICE SUMMER. GULP.GULP.GULP. Rigel says: 2008-04-25 16:28:24 I have to laugh at Anonymous who's cluttering up this site with the typical anti-American diatribes that can be expected from the die-hard leftist crowd. No doubt he's still lamenting the collapse of the Soviet empire because things were so much better under the Communists---or were they? Who's naive enough to believe that if we replace oil and gas with any of these alternate technologies they'll somehow be cheaper? We better remember that all indications are that we'll be dependent on fossil fuels until mid-century unless some phenomenal technological breakthrough is found. We should also remember that for centuries humans had to depend on draft animals like horses and oxen, sails, wood and their own muscles to provide the energy they needed for survival. It took a long time for internal combustion engines and electrical generation to be developed and perfected. So why anyone believes there's going to be any major change overnight now is beyond me. If gas prices are getting too high, reduce your driving, buy smaller cars, move closer to your place of work, etc. These people who pay big bucks for SUVs and light trucks that they don't need for hauling or towing are just paying to move around large masses or steel, rubber, and glass. Then many are dumb enough to lease the things without being able to write off the payments as a business expense. Throw in the higher insurance rates for such heaps and make a daily commute into the city from places like Stonewall, Selkirk, Morris, etc. and you'll really see whatever savings you have depleted at a record rate. Rigel says: 2008-06-01 20:12:59 Now that people are getting accustomed to high gas prices that are unlikely to drop much in the future, they need to adjust their driving habits to maximize fuel economy. I had to laugh at two anecdotes where drivers were complaining about these costs without taking into account their habits and vehicles. One concerned someone who made the roundtrip to the Twin Cities which cost him $400 at the pump. The problem was largely because he was driving a 3/4- ton GMC truck with a 5.3 liter V-8 and wasn't smart enough to keeping below the 70 and 75 mph speed limits in N. Dakota and Minnesota. Increasing speed from 60- to 75 causes a 20% reduction in fuel efficiency, and had he done this, he could have reduced his gas bill by $80. A second driver who lived north of Selkirk and had to commute into the city daily claimed he put on over 100 km. each round trip. When asked if he considered downsizing his vehicle, he claimed he needed his van to be able to handle winter conditions. It seems he's a little clued-out because a smaller car/truck with winter tires would probably serve him fine, and if that weren't enough, he should try a small 4WD job like the versions offered by the Toyota Matrix or various equivalents. So if people aren't willing to make the necessary adjustments to their driving, they shouldn't whine about high gas prices. |
