Why no Brew Pubs in Winnipeg? ![]() A rant by: 30something I don't know how else to add to my rant title, except why does everyone in this city prefer to drink stale old beer over freshly brewed beer. They have brew pubs in almost every city in Canada why not Winnipeg? any comments? anyone ever thought of opening one here? << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) BigB says: 2005-11-29 22:12:23 I remember going to those places when i was younger. I always thought that the reason that they closed down was because their beer was horrible. But it does make sense that the LC had effect on it. I remember the days of 25 cent draft night. That gave a new meaning to getting drunk. But ever since that idiot in Selkirk got hammered and drown in the river (like 50% of the blow-outs breed out there) We have had to pay drink minimums. I wonder if there is a way that we can protest the rates?!?! efinEhRab says: 2005-11-29 23:31:39 Who says the beer is stale, i love my minhas, its cheaap and good. CreamSoda says: 2005-11-30 00:14:36 Of course you love your minhas.. you probobly love your trailer and your mullet too, doesnt mean we arent still going to laugh at you. The LC, I hate to say, were loving the fact that some kid drowned from drinking and swimming. They couldn't wait to jump all over that. Thanks to Selkirk we can probobly count on a minimum price increase every few years when another one of their kind finds it time to head out for a dip after a kegger. I think the only way we can protest rates is to stop drinking.. and lets face it.. its christmas, no way in hell am I protesting for the rest of this year. |

There were brew pubs at a couple of locations in Winnipeg. One at the Niakwa hotel and another at Osborne and River. Both long closed. Problem with keeping them going is the idiotic rules set out by the clowns at the MLCC. You brew the beer, sell it to the liquor commission then they sell it back to you. You can\'t have a stand alone pub, it has to be part of a hotel (rooms available for drunks, I suppose) or part of a restaurant, with all kinds of rules about number of seats, type of food, the list goes on. It\'s just not economic when members of the MLCC are making up rules for the fun of it. Take a look at the commisions web site on rules for occasional permits. I see no reason we need a liquor act that is the size of a phone book, they have rules for everything, needed or not.
