Email I got ![]() A rant by: telcan My First post on this site and it isn't even my words, but i thought it was an interesting article I got emailed to me. Apparently it was published in the toronto star. Will we still be the Country of choice and still be Canada if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in Canada because it is the Country of Choice?????? Think about it! All we have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas...........but because it isn't celebrated by everyone..............we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that. This says it all! This is an editorial written by an Toronto newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please! IMMIGRANTS, NOT Canadians MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Canadians. However...... the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Canada Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of Canada being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Canadians....... we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH/FRENCH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "We Stand On Guard For Thee" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women.......on Christian principles............. founded this nation..... and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home.........because God is part of our culture. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. But once you are done complaining....... whining...... and griping....... about our flag....... our pledge...... our national motto........or our way of life....I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other Great Canadian Freedom....... THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) jack49 says: 2005-11-22 22:08:44 ^^Someone has the Christmas spirit a little early this year. Give me a few weeks and i'll be there too. ;) BigB says: 2005-11-24 19:25:05 I hope we will see more of Telcan in the future. I agree completely with this email you posted. I think I have ranted about it before on the site, if not I have to all my friends, but it bothers me how when people come to Canada they aren’t a Canadian they are Chinese, Pakistani, Aboriginal, African, etc. When you go to the states you are American. It doesn’t matter where you originate. When people ask when what my background is I always tell them I am Canadian. I was born here and I am proud to be from here. I despise people that are Ukrainian, Mennonite, Polish, etc so they buy their meat from a butcher of their background, get their hair cut by the same, buy shoes from the same, etc. We are all Canadian not polish-Canadian, Ukradian, or whatever else you want to be called. As for Christina’s comments on Christmas; that’s the one time of the year that I’m not an a-hole. It’s nice to appreciate all that you have (for some its family and friends and others its worldly possessions). It’s the one time of year that I can enjoy life and all its blessings and not have a complaint about anything. But don’t hold me to that, there wasn’t this site before this year. I’m sure I can drum up some issues I have with the Christmas season. On a gloomy day you can always think that there is an old lady somewhere slipping and falling on a sheet of ice to bring up your spirits:) hahah. Good thing their hips and knees are all made of metal! nekochan says: 2005-11-25 00:36:56 There's a reason why no one in my family speaks the language of our ancestors, cause my grandpa believed that he was now Canadian, so he learned to be Canadian and taught his children to be Canadian. But if someone asks me what I am, I assume they realize I'm Canadian, since that's where I am, so I tell them where my roots come from. And don't think we've lost out on our culture. There's a certain mentailty that asians have that I've noticed other Canadians don't have. We also celebrate festivals and new years eve like my grandpa and grandma would have in the old country. And since Canada protects out rights to do so, and because there's a big enough community in Winnipeg to do so, I will continue to do so, and when I have children, they will learn to do the same. BigB says: 2005-11-25 15:02:03 Why can't Canadian be your culture? I don't see where the importance of a background is. Other then making the original immigrant deal with homesickness it really has no place anymore. The ways of the past have little reflection on current days. Tradition is a good thing. Every adult has fond childhood memories of some kind of family tradition. But the get diluted as they form traditions with their own families. There are foods that my mother made for me when i was a child that my family doesn't enjoy. I don't force these meals on them, rather we enjoy meals that we enjoy as our own family. roscoe says: 2005-12-04 19:44:59 BigB, don't be so nationalistic. It is a trap and a dangeous game that ought not be played. This was the trump card Hitler liked to play, and it has been around forever. You might recognise the statement "Divide and Conquer" (Napoleaon Bonaparte) it is this exact same tactic that keeps used over & over again by every ethically bankrupt government in the so called free world. For example, do you really think Quebec wants to seperate from Canada solely over language issues? Of course not! If you were to read and understand what they want, you would soon realize that they are right and the Federal politicians are wrong. roscoe says: 2005-12-05 20:21:43 By the way, I doubt very much that the original Canadians celebrated Christmas. That was something the immigrants of the day brought along with them. It was forced on the original Canadians just as you claim immigrants are now forcing their believes on you. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, so to speak, you are doing what every good Canadian is exceptional at, WHINING !!!!!!!!!!! BigB says: 2005-12-05 22:14:26 Our whining doesn't hold a candle to the americans. What about thanksgiving? Was that not celebrated by the early settlers either? thx for coming out, keep the shirt BalthazaarRamrod says: 2005-12-12 11:57:30 Truth be told, a lot of problems would be solved if people on both sides of the coin would just settle the f*** down. DisgruntledUSCitizen says: 2005-12-15 03:09:50 NOT ALL AMERICANS WHINE!!! LOL, simmmer down now...simmer down..Christmas should not be Nationalistic and yes I bet the origial Canadian's who were Christian's celebrated Christmas. Christmas is about the love of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. It is about God's love for us. Christmas is about forgetting yourself and making other's happy. That is my opinion and all of you have the right to disagree. We all have different beliefs and ideas and I respect those who don't share my viewpoints. Really, we do all need to remember this is the season for togetherness. This is my very 1st Christmas away from home. I am more aware than ever of how important the people I love in my life are. I may not always agree with them or even like them but that does not change my love for them. Remember those you hold dear to you this Season. People drift in and out of our lives, and each one leaves an imprint of their spirit. I will remember to Cherish the spirits in my life. BigB says: 2005-12-15 23:28:51 I agree w/ you on what Cmas is all about (to me). But the majority of North American society don't look at what holidays originate from. They celebrate bunnies, santa and turkeys. And if being light hearted about the truth and masking thier children from why they really do have a day off school is their perogative, then so be it. We are accountable for our own actions and only ours. Unfortunetly, Sometimes our actions effect others. BigRedS024 says: 2006-12-21 00:16:46 AW NUTS! I just posted a rant under the billboard about the Jesusmas sign on Pembina... Thank GO*(oops! Don't want to offend anyone), thank goodness for cut and paste. Here is my rant again! I work in a huge multicultural facility, where the trees put on display are referred to not as Christmas trees but holiday trees! We are encouraged to wish others a "Happy Holiday", not Merry Christmas! They have been renamed so as not to "offend" other ethnic groups! I'm going to assume, someone is as ticked by this as me and numerous others. Heaven forbid, we should offend others! The "Jesus People" formally known as Christians have to change, cause they be offending someone! I'm sick of these people that feel offended! Don't like it...feel free to move to another country to practice your religion, like Somalia, or Sudan or the new religious hot spot...Middle East!!! Beat it!!! CANADIAN says: 2007-10-21 13:08:02 I think canada is diverse enough that everyone should be accepting of all cultures, but we as canadians should not have to sensor or change ourselves to conform to the other cultures, religions and traditions that have been brought into our fine country. They should accept us just as we have accepted them. Don't get mad if I say Merry Christmas, I'm trying to be friendly not offend you. Everyone needs to grow tougher skin and stop being so sensetive, sometimes you just have to deal with it. SOLMoFo says: 2008-01-18 11:17:54 I can't help but notice the main jist of this argument is religion. Personally, I don't believe in the "great hippie in the sky" or any of that s*** I've had stuffed down my throat at the whim of you pansy-assed, self-righteous, intolerant "good christians". I don't give a s*** about your religion. If you're chistian, buddhist, or even gay, that's just great for you, now leave it out of my life. I don't care, and I certainly don't want to hear it. If you're so big on christianity, move to Jerusalem, watch the Bakkers on TV, and shut the f*** up. Instead of preaching goodwill and tolerance, demonstrate it. SOLMoFo says: 2008-01-18 13:08:35 Geez... sorry telcan et al. I've reconsidered your point and I agree; all this freedom and diversity is scary! Let's all move to Afghanistan so we can have the government enforce which religion we practise, how and when. In fact, let's have them dictate our clothing too, because every time I see someone who doesn't look and act like me, I get afraid- it's so confusing! All our freedoms, like religion and speech, just open the doors for heathens to call into question the status quo knowledge, like those bastards Galileo and Darwin. I would much prefer to remain blissfully ignorant in my Kookie Kutter Kristian world (KKK?) Anonymous says: 2008-01-26 02:16:05 everybody forgot to mention the HOHOHO being taken away from Santa Claus because it might offend women. LOL who thinks like that? Is it so necesssary to freak out and try to take out everything God related or misinterpret something that is said inncocently out of long tradition for kids because someone might think they are being dissed in some way? Just common sense there. Besides if someones going daytime emmy over hearing HOHOHO they probably have some issues anyway. Ridiculous. We still have freedom of expression in this country. No-one can tell me I cant say Christ. I wont say HAHAHA either. Where is the sensitivity for my beliefs and traditions? SOLMoFo says: 2008-07-24 17:32:36 Hey, Santa really knows how to party... three ho's are better than one! jane says: 2008-08-26 17:29:21 get real, adolf 1967gt500 says: 2009-03-26 17:33:58 i totaly agree with you on this subject i went to a certin high school a couple o years ago and man i dont mean to be racist or anything but i was the whitest son of a gun there im not kidding. they had there own recording of our national anthem they had bleeped out the god keep our land gloriouse and free |

I agree with you and they are doing the same things in the States. Why take God out of everything? You can call God whatever you want...allah, buddah, mother earth, Jesus. The truth is believeing in something greater than myself and having hope is a good thing for me. Telcan...Merry Christmas! I know that there are all kinds of people out there with all kinds of beliefs and I am not at all forcing my belief on anyone. I believe that we have a God out there that loves all of us..that wants for us to not be religious but have a relationship with Him. If nothing else, I hope that during this season we could GIVE with our hearts compassionate.....our arms open....and our world full of the beauty and wonder that this Holiday brings. No matter what religion, race, creed, or sexual orientation God bless all of you and all of Canada and the United States.
