What the hell was I thinking? what the hell was your marketing department thinking? ![]() A rant by: gottalovebill I understand the citys concern for workers safety. But, do we really need to be subjected to this horrible "what the heck were you thinking?" marketing campaign? No, I dont think we do! My first question is this, how many construction workers have been injured because cars were speeding?? This I am not sure of. From this campaigns momentum it would seem to me like these workers were being killed off by the hundreds. I know I am a cautious driver and believe it or not I know that the people in the bright orange vests are construction workers and not targets! And do you want to know what the heck I was thinking?? i was thinking, why the hell do they always block off lanes during rush hour, or wow, that person leaning on their shovel is making $20 an hour.... << Back Add a Comment Comments ( Add a Comment ) duckgirl says: 2006-05-30 23:56:26 I have to agree. I have a good friend in the construction industry. Some people really don't care and really don't slow down when in a construction zone, much like the people who don't slow down in school zones. Who cares if youre in a rush? Who cares if you are late? It's not worth it to kill or injure someone who is ony doing their job. I am ALL FOR this kind of advertising. gottalovebill says: 2006-05-31 01:35:46 I am not saying that it's ok to speed around construction sights. yes, I do agree that these workers have dangerous jobs and they shouldnt have to be sujected to the possibility of injury just to make a living , no one should. I guess I was unclear, for that apologize. I just hate that campaign, And yes, I am all for advertising as well, as it is my job. But guilt doesnt sell, infact it makes people annoyed and less responsive, (thats my point as to why I hate this campaign). lilise says: 2006-05-31 11:02:20 I find these ads very offensive. They have a condescending tone that is an insult to everyone reading them, regardless of whether they are guilty of these infractions or not. Anonymous says: 2006-05-31 12:09:51 Not sure if it's been explicitly stated, but this is a MANITOBA campaign, not just Winnipeg. But that aside yeah, I agree, I think it's annoying and probably a waste of money. I mean how much money is spent in the province by everyone (think about every last little place you hear about "don't drink and drive" or "who's your D.D.?" and yet the number of drunk drivers continues to rise. People are morons and an ad campaign - whatever the subject - is only going to get a very few people to think before they act. BigB says: 2006-05-31 15:18:23 The number of drunk drivers continues to increase? Did you make that statistic up? If that actually is an accurate statistic, it would be that ppl w/ DUI's continue to grow. Back in the 70's everyone did it, they just didn't get convicted. I hang around ppl that wont even have a couple drinks and drive. It shocks me how concious ppl are. |

1356. That's the number of road workers that were injured last year. I guess that would mean they are getting hurt by the hundreds...I am in the construction industry and trust me Manitoba is far behind on safety. On friday's of longweekends there was an average of 3 fatalities to workers on the highway. So now they passed a new legislation that no one could be working on the highways on a longweekend past 3pm. So I have to backup Manitoba Construction Safety council, "what the heck were you thinking"?!?
