Socially disfunctional Winnepeggers

A rant by: georgedubya

I\'m from BC and am amazed, after hearing from a certain colleague how friendly Winnepeggers are, to discover how socially disfunctional this community seems to be. Now I am sure that there are emotionally developed people in this city, but in my short visit here(approx. 2 weeks) I have found more rude, suspicious, self-seekers than outgoing, emotionally developed people.
And someone even deemed it appropriate to exclaim \"friendly manitoba\" on license plates. Ironicism at it\'s best.

George W.

I think you may be a little harsh here. Maybe you need to spend more than two weeks here to develop an educated opinion. Or perhaps you were just making a joke as a jovial jab at your colleague.

Interesting. I for one despise a large part of WPG. The one thing that I do like about the community is the friendly ppl. I travel alot w/ the fair (that's right im a carny) and I get to meet all new ppl throughout NA and mainly Canada. I have found BC (Hongcouver) to be filled w/ the most rude ppl. You can't ask directions, cant chat about the weather and you cant grab the ass of some random stranger w/o getting a glare and possibly a F-off... Winnipeg on the other hand has lots of friendly, easy going and somewhat annoying ppl around to offer a helping hand. Clearly this BC yankee is spending his time in Osborne Village or St B. The two places us winnipegger would like to see seperate from the city and join the rest of the ignorant quebecers in their quest to go to hell.

Well said. Perhaps we should have a larvae eating contest to settle this.

Could I assume that you are both collegues with one another? The gibber does not make any sense to me. Perhaps you could expand with what the heck you are talking about.

I've been living back in WPG for six years now and it's true that Winnpegers are an ignorant group of people[not all].They rarely smile, unless drunk or stoned. It's strange, when walking around Wpg i feel if i smile at a guy ,i feel like i might get hit and if i smile at a girl it's asummed that i'm hitting on her,so it's useless to even try.It really gets under my skin and you will find that it will seep into your blood and eventually being rude becomes so easy.

Welcome to Weenerpeg. Th-th-th that's all folks. Seriously, you have a binary choice; either stay or go. Me, I'm leaving :) Q: What is the best thing to see in your rear view mirror? A: Winnipeg

Winnipeg sucks big time. I've lived here 30 years too long. Hope to move in near future. Don't know any part of Canada that's better. Will go overseas. The endless cold followed by humid summers and bugs galore is depressing. There's no reason to live here. A co-worker of mine says only the losers remain. It feels like that sometimes. What I like about Winnipeg is the size of the City and the people aren't too bad. The jobs are crappy and for those apartment living, some buildings need major up to date renovations. I would visit here to see friends and family but I don't want to waste anymore time here. With a great deal more cash I would've left long ago. Somebody said it's a black hole that pulls you in and it's so true. DO NOT ENTER!!!

Boogie, It's people like you who will not be happy anywhere you end up....good luck with that.

Can't people from B.C. SPELL, honey? I guess if you are so socially evolved and all, you can at least learn to spell at a third grade level. Just saying, you remind me of the smug louts from Transcona. I got my GED, I'm smart!!

Well Banshee, I think it's comments like that that make Winnipeggers seem rude and ignorant. EVERY neighbourhood has "smug louts", it's not something just limited to Transcona. I've lived in several different neighbourhoods here and Transcona is a good neighbourhood that has gotten a bad name. And for the record, I go to University and so do all of my Transcona friends.

My Dearest Georgedibya! I must agree with you, Winnipeg is not one of the friendlest places! Yet from my travels around the world we stand to be the same as any other country. If you go to visit with a positive attitude you will experience the positive nature of that country. If you go in smelling it bad, its going to give you that taste you will never forget....Remember life is on what you make it, and hey, I am not saying we have a great City, but it is home to most of us and we do try the best to make people feel welcome, regardless of where they are from....
