I LOVE WINNIPEG

A rant by: Anonymous

In response to the I HATE WINNIPEG rant.

Other than little things, Winnipeg iss a great place to live in. It's one of Canada's best kept secret (that and the East Coast). hope it stays taht way. The reasons are: - Rare traffic Jams (non existant unless construction). In T.O., a normal commute is 1.5 yrs) - No Smog - Low crime (compared to T.O. and Montreal it is still low, mostly gang related anyways) - Lots of Parks - The forks - Cheaper houses for starting families - Lower price of Fuel - Lower Taxes on Income than most provinces (Except Alberta) - Low Density areas in the city - People are friendly - Lots to do around town (Grand Beach, Gimli, St Malo, Riding Mountain, Spruce Woods, birds Hill,...) - Great Schools(for the most part) - Great Ethno-Diversity - Lots of history (HBC, Eaton's, Fort Garry, Lord Selkirk, ...) And I am sure there is way more. Have anice day! D.

(laughing)...My impression of your rant: "We have less gang activity, smog, and traffic jams than Toronto, so our city is great!"

Wait, you said "other than the little things". What ARE these "little things"? Slow snow removal? Panhandlers? The highest murder concentration in Canada?

Tell me how great wpg is when its 45 below zero. Sign me up for TO. They have entertainment, ammenities that far surpass our town, Real sports teams, better roadways, and so on...

I don't know if anyone remembers, but years ago a guy playing for the Bombers called "Ralph don't call me Dieter" Brock said that the only thing Winnipeg had was the Zoo at the Assinaboine Park.

BigB: --> why don't you go to T.O. then? You'll have fun just connecting your phone and cable at a "bargain" price of about $90. Then, registering your car will cost about $500-1000 after all the inspections. Then, car insurance hits you with $120-200/month. Let's see, that's about $3500 just to say that you are now a resident of T.O...., now the fun begins when you find out that your 1 bedroom appt will be about $1000/month. Don't know about you, but all that money will get me a nice -40 Snow Goose jacket and lots of nights getting hammered in decent bars with screaming hot women here in the good old PEG! (yes, Winnipeg also ranks up there when it comes to women second to St John's, NL). If you prefer culture, You can also hit the museum, the WRB, the WAG and the WSO for all that cash. The WSO will perform 20 concerts during the holiday season only. Cheers.

Why I love Winnipeg: - yes, there's snow, yes it's bloody cold out, but unlike BC, there's also sun during the winter. Have you ever looked out at the parks and forest areas after a night of jack frost? Everything sparkles! And, there's snow forts to be made, snow ball fights to be had and skating on the two rivers that stretch on for miles - we have one of the highest numbers of local bands, there's always some great entertainment in the various venues - our arts isn't so bad either (as long as we don't lose Rainbow Stage), on most nights, you have your choice of three or more plays to attend. Did anyone check out I.F.? It was fantastic! Don't forget our numerous improv groups and comedy clubs - The Limelight! Especially on a wednesday or tuesday when there's enough people to have a good time, but i can still get up and sing a few times, and reasonable priced drinks too! - as a employee of the film industry, I'm quite busy. There's quite a few production companys in the city, we've been getting more hollywood exposure, and there isn't as much competetion to find a good job, unlike TO and Vancouver. Same goes for animation and graphic design - Our city is not too big, and not too small - we have all the great things about living in a big city, but without all the crap, hour and a half traffic jams, poisonous smog, and quicker service at your favorite shops and restaurants - Our universities are some of the top post-secondary education facilities in the country - Our malls are some of the biggest in the countries (note, i said some of, not the biggest) - our cost of living is one of the lowest in the countries - it is a safe place to live - we can see the stars and the northern lights - There's a 7-11 or a Macs every block - There's enough of an indepent scene thriving in the city so you have choices on what sub-culture you want to partake in - we've got some great bars that are open 7 days a week, have free parking, low coverage - no cover some nights - our arena is one of the busiest arenas in the contineant - we're the city that many talented and famous people call home To all of you who hate Winnipeg, why do you stay? And what are you looking for that you can't find here? And to the person who said that Canada sucks, it's a free country, and no one is forcing you to stay!

In response to the nameless person who did the google search, more than half of the 1100 are in refrence to the song "I Hate Winnipeg," a handfull of them are in refrence to some guys webpage dedicated to hating winnipeg and another small handful of them are "I don't Hate Winnipeg" and google, of course, brings those up as "I Hate Winnipeg." I think that kind of balances things out between the two stats.
