Punks in this province - particularly in this city - are out of control. Two Hummers stolen in one 2-day period, with 1 person being murdered and 1 vehicle driving all over people's property. It's out of control.

And to make matters worse, it turns out this punk (Mark Douglas Rodgers) is the same low-life who was involved in the vehicular murder of the taxi driver a year or so ago. This kid who is barely 18 has two deaths on his head. And what sentence do you think he'll get?

I'm calling on every Winnipegger to get mad. Really mad. Call your MLA. Call your MP. Get them away from trimming the Christmas tree or whatever they're doing and get them to come up with real solutions. Forget commercials during soap operas. How about corporal punishment? How about mandatory jail time of at least 10 years for causing the death of someone through negligence. Is that such a hard concept for the judiciary to handle: hold people accountable for the crimes they commit.

This man who died on Friday could have been anyone's friend, father, husband, brother. Hell, he could have been YOU. He didn't have some sort of death-wish. He wasn't a bad man who was going to get what he had coming to him. He was an ordinary, innocent victim to some waste of a life who thought stealing a vehicle and speeding it through a residential area was acceptable.

Unfortunately the sentence this punk will get will only encourage others like him to do the same thing. It's time for Winnipeggers to do whatever is necessary to stop this disease.
